A Memory from Nora

Catching Diamonds reminded me of some of my childhood experiences. According to Mom, I had a special, invisible, friend named Donny. I was only about 4 when he “appeared”. He drove a little red car to Billings sometimes. Well, as sometimes happens, Donny began doing things that he shouldn’t . For example, when Mom asked me why my toys weren’t picked up or who turned on the TV without permission, I had a quick answer: Donny! This apparently continued for a short time until my parents told me Donny had to leave since he didn’t mind their rules.

That was it. I never mentioned Donny again except when Mom asked where he’d gone. My reply: He drove his little red car to Billings!

As a child of 7 or 8, I drew a colored map of planets I’d invented. Candy Land, Pet Land, Star Land, Toy Land,… each had its theme and friendly inhabitants whom I’d visit at night as I dropped off to sleep. I loved imagining the adventures I’d have which were always joyful and interesting.

To our delight, our 8-year old grandson also created his own planets and map and shared his adventures with us!

Thanks, Linda, for reminding us of childhood delights!
